The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Programs:
Investigator Awards in Health Policy Research New Jersey Health Initiatives Program

Investigator Awards in Health Policy Research
BackgroundCurrent Projects

The national program office of The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Awards Program in Health Policy Research is located within the Institute. David Mechanic, Ph.D. is the director, and Lynn B. Rogut serves as Deputy Director. The program requests proposals to interpret, develop or substantially advance ideas or knowledge that can improve health and health care policy in the United States. The program challenges investigators to think creatively about the most important problems affecting the health and health care of Americans. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation anticipates that the research produced under this program will be used to advance understanding of health issues and will be of direct benefit to policymakers, providers and health leaders.

The program enables a select number of highly qualified individuals from new investigators to distinguished senior scholars to undertake individual or collaborative research. Applications are encouraged from investigators in diverse fields including sociology, economics, political science, education, anthropology, history, health and social policy, public health, medicine, nursing, allied health, law, business, philosophy, ethics, journalism, social work, the management sciences and other fields. Applications from individuals in non-academic settings, such as research firms and policy organizations, are also encouraged. The number of grants made under the program will depend on the nature and quality of applications received with up to ten awards made annually. The program also seeks to build on the productive scholarship of individual investigators and the collaborative work among awardees with activities to enhance individual research and increase the effectiveness of the program as a whole.
