Perry N Halkitis, PhD, MS, MPH is Dean of the School of Public Health at Rutgers University and Professor of Biostatistics and Social and Behavioral Health Sciences with appointments in the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, the RWJ School of Medicine, the School of Public Affairs and Administration and the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. Dr. Halkitisí talk will examine patterns of methamphetamine use among diverse samples of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men (MSM); drivers of methamphetamine use; associations of methamphetamine with sexual risk taking that may lead to transmission of bacterial and viral pathogens including HIV; and approaches for addressing methamphetamine (and other drug) use in practice and prevention for MSM. The Center for Health, Identity, Behavior and Prevention Studies (CHIBPS), the research center he founded and directs, serves as a training site for the next generation of scholars and partners with community agencies to conduct studies for and with the LGBTQ population. Throughout his career, Dr. Halkitis has been on the forefront fighting for the rights of those infected with and affected by HIV and an outspoken advocate for the health of the LGBTQ population.
