Joanna Kempner Receives Society of Medical Anthropology's Elaine Basker Memorial Prize

Joanna Kempner received the Society of Medical Anthropology's Elaine Basker Memorial Prize for best scholarship on gender and health for her book, Not Tonight: Migraine and the Politics of Gender and Health published by the University of Chicago Press. The Prize is awarded annually for work judged to be the most courageous, significant, and potentially influential contribution to anthropological scholarship on gender and health. The Prize was founded by Virginia R. Dominguez in collaboration with the Society for Medical Anthropology in 1987 following the death of Israeli-American critical medical anthropologist and feminist, Eileen Basker, in October 1986.
