Deborah Carr Named Editor of The Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the country’s largest interdisciplinary organization devoted to the field of aging, has named Deborah Carr as the next editor of The Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences, effective January, 2015. The journal publishes peer-reviewed articles on aging issues from the disciplines of sociology, anthropology, demography, economics, epidemiology, geography, political science, public health, social history and social work. Deborah Carr is a faculty member of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research and professor and chair of the Department of Sociology with a secondary appointment in the School of Social Work. She is a life course sociologist whose research interests focus on stress, health and well-being over the life course. Her research focuses on death, dying and spousal bereavement; end of life decision-making; marriage and families in later life; and the psychosocial consequences of obesity. She is an investigator on several major studies of aging and the life course including Midlife Development in the United States (MIDUS) and Wisconsin Longitudinal Study (WLS). She is a GSA fellow, the Society’s highest class of membership.
