Diana Sanchez wins the Michele Alexander Early Career Award for Scholarship and Service

Diana T. Sanchez, assistant professor in the Department of Psychology at the School of Arts and Sciences, Rutgers, New Brunswick, received the Michele Alexander Early Career Award for Scholarship and Service. The award was given by the Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues for her outstanding contributions to teaching, mentoring, and community service. Diana’s research on racial identity in biracial populations reveals a more complex understanding of intergroup relations, social identity processes and stigma. Taking her research into the community Diana helped to establish and continues to serve as faculty advisor to Fusion, a multiracial student organization on the Rutgers campus that is a support group for multiracial students, their friends and family and serves as an important information resource. Diana’s work exemplifies how scholars can combine scholarship with service.
